Recipient: Bev King

Bev
King found that she was ready to learn new information and
to tackle new challenges so she attended a Career Planning
Workshop at Job Quest Career Services in July 2003.
With the help of the workshop facilitator she received information
regarding a Human Resource Management certificate program
through the University of Manitoba. Within a year and
a half, she had completed the program.
Bev
King has gained employment as an Outreach Worker in the field
of mental health and has said that it was beneficial to her
to use the services provided by Job Quest.

Award
Recipient: Linda Sanderson

Linda
Sanderson decided that last Spring she wanted to break away
from her senior retail position and find a new job closer
to home in Selkirk. Little did she know that after 15
years with her last employer, that filling out an application
and being interviewed was no guarantee to job search success.
With her exceptional background, she wondered why she was
not getting a job.
Linda
heard about Job Quest Career Services but doubted she would
get anything out of its services, but decided to see what
Job Quest was all about.
Linda
attended Job Quest workshops then answered an ad for a position
with Canadian Tire, which let to an interview and getting
the job!

Recipient: Eugene Zalevich

Eugene
Zalevich began his relationship with Job Quest Career Services
in April of 2003 where he had attended an itinerant workshop
for summer employment. Further down the road Eugene
participated in Job Quest workshops at the Selkirk & District
Learning Centre. With his strong computer background
and job search endeavors he obtained the position of Community
Coordinator with CAP, the Community Access Program.
Eugene
proved to be a good partner and advocate of Job Quest's services,
not only had he utilized Job Quest services, he also promoted
them to others in his hometown of Gimli. He also volunteered
as a participant in Job Quest's PLAR Build Your Career Portfolio
pilot workshop. He provided valuable feedback to further
improve the workshop and outreach Job Quest's services to
the community.

Consumers Co-operative
Association Ltd.

Interlake
Employment Services presented the Achievement Award to the
Arborg Co-op for supporting the program in the last 10 years
and their loyal support to the program and their clients.
In the past years the Arborg Co-op has hired 5 clients.
They are still working with them today.

Marketplace

Interlake
Employment Services presented the Achievement Award to
Stonewall
Marketplace for supporting the program for the last 15 years.
We appreciate all the staff at the Stonewall Marketplace for
taking an interest in the lives of our clients and making
the Marketplace a great place to work.

Recipient: Troy Watson

Troy
Watson had not completed his high school diploma but had been
working quiet successfully for some time as a chef at Earls
on Main, a popular Winnipeg restaurant. Still, not having
that diploma was unfinished business for Troy and that is
when he came to the Lord Selkirk Learning Centre.
Over
the next few years he worked hard at his studies achieving
excellent grades and impressing his teachers with his commitment
and quality of work.
Troy
completed his studies and graduated in 2005. He is still
currently working, but is planning to continue his education
at Red River College and prepare himself for future opportunities.

Award
Recipient: Agnes Mawejje

Agnes
Mawejje was born in Uganda. She came to Canada in 1992
when her husband accepted the Minister's position at the Anglican
Church in the communities of the northern interlake.
They moved to St. Andrews in 2000 when Reverend Mawejje took
a new position at St. Clements and St. George Anglican Churches.
When Agnes
came to Canada she was not confident in her conversational
English skills but was determined to get a grade 12 diploma.
Agnes
began her pursuit in a literacy program and then spent the
next two years taking courses at the Lord Selkirk Learning
Centre. At times she felt overwhelmed but was determined.
In 2005 Agnes achieved excellent grades and graduated with
a Mature Student High School Diploma. She has since
completed a Health Care Aid Program and is currently employed
at Bethel Home in Selkirk.
